Haida Spoon Northwest Coast, Canada Horn H. 32 cm Haida spoon, North West Coast, Canada H. 12 5/8 in The fully carved handle gives way to a large spoon. While the latter retains its original hue, the handle and its totemic figure decoration have taken on a darker hue. The overall shape of this object seems to echo the curve of the horn. Haida art has been of interest to collectors since the first half of the 20th century. Claude Levi-Strauss reports that Julius Carlebach's store on Third Avenue in New York was one of the major places where collectors, particularly European ones, acquired Haida art.
