Stone masks are found throughout the state of Guerrero. While there are stylistic similarities between some Chontal and Mezcala masks, each region has retained its own style. Such is the case of this very important mask with its square outline and serrated border. These masks were generally found in burials, but their role remains unknown to this day. The beauty and serenity of these faces, which touch our aesthetic sensibilities, reveal the work of true artists.
