Campanian Olpe of the Gnathia ware. 4th century BC. H 19.5 cm, ø body 8.7 cm. Shiny earthenware with incisions and painting in red, yellow and white. Egg stick, drops and ivy tendrils on the neck, garland on the body. Very rare vase shape! Tiny paint chips, otherwise intact. For a similar jug combining a lekythos body and a jug neck with a flat, profiled mouth, see for example the jug National Archaeological Museum Naples 80854: Corpus Vasorum Antiquorum 3 pl. 65, 3; Beazley Archive Pottery Database 9003965. Provenance: ex collection P. Treffz-Eichhöfer, Stuttgart, collected in the 1980s to 1990s.
