The (re)export of a specimen of a species listed in the appendices of CITES and regulation no. 338/97, from the European Union to a third country, is subject to obtaining an export permit or re-export certificate issued by the country of departure. In the case of export outside national territory, all administrative formalities are the responsibility of the purchaser. For exports outside the EU, the buyer must apply for a CITES export permit from France, and then for a CITES import permit from the authorities in his or her own country.
