River landscape with waterfall - River landscape with mill and bridge
Pair of tempera on cardboard
45 x 49.5 cm and 46 x 52 cm
Provenance: Sotheby's Milan, November 16, 2010 auction lot 52.
Bison began his training in Brescia with the painter Gerolamo Romani, then in Venice with Costantino Cedini. After staying in Ferrara he often worked between the Padua and Treviso areas, while at the turn of the century he worked in Trieste. In 1831 he moved to Milan, the city where he died in 1844. Bison is to be considered the link, not only biographically, between the eighteenth-century Veneto landscape, the arcadia of Francesco Zuccarelli in primis, and Romantic landscape expression.
