The work is certainly by the Parma painter; it finds confirmation at the Zeri Photo Library where it is catalogued under card number 61845.
Rocca, also known as Parmigianino, was active in Rome, where he is documented from 1691 to 1730. Here, along with Francesco Trevisani and Sebastiano Conca, he entered the circle of artists protected by Cardinal Ottoboni. He became famous for his graceful mythological and historical scenes often mellowed by Arcadian poetics. His works are housed in a variety of museums including: Gemäldegalerie Alte Meister in Kassel, Walters Art Museum in Baltimore, Galleria dell'Accademia nazionale di San Luca in Rome, Galleria Doria Pamphilj in Rome, Royal Museums in Brussels, Louvre Museum in Paris, National Museum in Budapest, and many others.
