Antonio Amorosi (Comunanza 1660 - Rome 1738) Young drinker Oil on canvas 46 x 38 cm The work finds attributive confirmation in the almost identical painting published on p. 40 fig. 4 of the catalog of the exhibition Antonio Amorosi Vita quotidiana del '700, edited by A. Lo Bianco and S. Papetti, held in Comunanza in May-October 2003. Also from the same catalog is the painting published on p. 71, photo and card 23 from the Pinacoteca Civica di Ascoli Piceno, where the same young drinker is observed. A pupil in Rome of Giuseppe Ghezzi, Antonio Amorosi's first recognized work is the Portrait of Filippo Ricci (signed), now in the Weitzner collection in New York. His early activity was devoted to historical and religious themes, although his fame to this day is due to his paintings related to the depiction of pitocchi.
