Paolo Pagani (Valsoda Castle 1655 - Milan 1716) Volcano Oil on canvas 109 x 97 cm Among the many examples that can be cited for attributive purposes, we find a very convincing match in the painting Christ restores sight to the blind man housed in the Sabaudia Gallery of the Royal Museums of Turin. Equally useful may be the observation of the canvas Descent into Limbo in the Pagani Museum of Castello Valsoda where the painter's characteristic nudes can be observed. Finally, Martyrdom of San Vitale from the Church of San Vitale in Chiasso. Pagani moved at a young age to Venice where he worked with Giuseppe Diamantini and through whom he met Pietro Liberi. He later joined the Tenebrosi current of Giovanni Battista Langetti and Carl Loth. In 1690 Paolo Pagani left Venice, in the company of his pupil Antonio Pellegrini, for a long journey through Austria, Germany, Moravia and Poland. In 1696 he returned from abroad and resided in Lombardy where, within a short time, he became one of the most respected and sought-after painters of his time. The success of his art was due to the wide range of his knowledge and to the recovery of the lesson of the Emilian school, especially of Carracci but also of Correggio and Lanfranco, as shown by his nudes of Baroque emphasis, emphasized by the plasticity of the poses and often seen against the light. Emilian instances updated and revisited in a Lombard-Venetian key, given his training. His art was fundamental to Piazzetta's chiaroscuro training, and his sparse and severe layout would be captured by Federico Bencovich. Paolo Pagani (Castello Valsoda 1655 - Milan 1716) attributed Volcano Oil on canvas 109 × 97 cm Among the many examples that can be cited for attribution purposes, we find a very convincing confirmation in the painting Christ Restores Sight to the Blind Man kept in the Sabaudia Gallery of the Royal Museums of Turin. Likewise may be the observation of the canvas Descent into Limbo in the Pagani Museum of Castello Valsoda where the painter's characteristic nudes can be observed. Finally Martyrdom of San Vitale in the church of San Vitale in Chiasso.
