He took his first steps with Raphael, attending his school and assisting him in his work at the Villa Farnesina and in the Vatican. Following the master's death he joined Giulio Romano, collaborating both in the Vatican and Mantua. Escaping the sad fate of Rome devastated by the Lanzichenecchi, Raphael went to Città di Castello in 1527 working for local and regional churches. Later assisted by Girolamo Genga he decorated the Imperial Villa of Francesco Maria della Rovere, duke of Urbino, in Pesaro. Later he joined Vasari in Florence and Naples.
