Piedmontese-French school of the 17th century Portraits of Charles Emmanuel II of Savoy - Portrait of Marie Jeanne Baptiste of Savoy Nemours Pair of oil on canvas 117 x 87 cm Looking at the clothing and the pose assumed by the figures, we learn how the author of this important pair of portraits of the House of Savoy was influenced by the manner of Charles and Henri Beaubrun. To further explore the attributive question, it is essential to recall Laurent Dufour's activities as official portrait painter and the presence at court of another French painter, Charles Dauphin. The latter, in 1666 painted a Family Portrait depicting Charles Emmanuel II of Savoy, his wife and little son Victor Amadeus II of Savoy; this painting was intended for the Spanish court and is now in the Prado Museum in Madrid. Another portrait of the Duke executed by Dauphin is part of the art collection of the castle of Aulteribe. It is very interesting to note that the two important frames, almost certainly, are the originals of the two paintings.
