Pierre PAULUS (Châtelet 1881-1959) Les hiercheuses, 1914 Oil on canvas. According to Sander Pierron, author of a monograph on the artist (published in "Savoir et beauté, revue d'art et d'enseignement, 1922), our painting "Les hiercheuses", together with "Le Fer", forms a splendid diptych; "here it's rest between two efforts, the moment when the workers pull themselves together; there (Le fer) it's work in all its noisy fever and tense will". This painting, according to the artist, was destined for the Charleroi Town Hall.
