Lion with zebra signed lower right declaration of authenticity on the back by Dr. Sergio Negri The panel has a characteristic elongated format, probably chosen precisely to suit the subject. The entire lower part of the work is, in fact, occupied by the elongated running figures of a zebra and a lion. The quadruped, advancing with its head down, is reached with a leap by the feline, which is already about to touch its hind legs. Without respecting proportional ratios, but following a personal hierarchical order, Ligabue realizes the prey is considerably smaller and stockier than the mighty predator. The silhouettes of sparse trees line the savanna background, silhouetted against the sky. (Taken from "Tutto Ligabue. Catalogo ragionato dei dipinti" edited by Augusto Agosta Tota and Marzio Dall'Acqua) W. 70.2 - H. 43.2 Cm oil on faesite Galleria Conte, Milan Private collection, Como Tutto Ligabue.
