JAPAN, Edo period (1603-1868). Set comprising a kabuto (helmet) with 32 koboshi-bashi (iron lamellae each with nine protruding rivets tapering towards the top opening) and a me no shita men menpo (mask). The 4-row iron shikoro (neck cover) is laced in several colors. The maedate (central ornament) features an oni head with large horns. The gilded bronze hachimanza (top opening) is finely chased and serrated. Gold-yellow agemaki (decorative bow) held in place by a ring at the back. The fukigaeshi (fins) and mabisashi(visor) are adorned with gilded bronze wallpaper, stars, rivets and mons. The me no shita men ressaie (ferocious) menpo(mask) in sali nui lacquer (imitating iron oxidation) in two parts, the nose attached with two studs. 3 rows of lacquered iron with beige laces. Missing moustache. The lining is slightly worn and torn at the edges. As is
