Tokyo 1964 Summer Olympics Torch Relay Safety Lantern
Rare 'mother flame' safety lamp from the Tokyo 1964 Summer Olympics, 13.5″ in height and 4.5″ in diameter, manufactured by the Honda Denki Co. Ltd., Tokyo, and designed by Sori Yanagi, engraved around the bottom ring: "Series No. 2, 'Sacred Firelamp,' Made in Japan." The modified miner's lamp is housed in an acrylic dome and suspended from a braided black leather handle. This design enabled the Olympic flame to be protected and safely transported by automobile and aircraft along the relay route.
