Beautiful TÉKKÉ-BOUKHARA rug (Central Asia), late 19th century
Technical features: Wool velvet on wool foundation.
Dimensions: 315 x 220cm
A fuchsia field hosts a sowing of gühls (stylized elephant paws) called "shields" interspersed with cruciform and polychrome secondary gühls. Four counter-borders with stylized designs frame the main fuschia border decorated with octagonal medallions with cruciform Kotchaks, depicting radiant suns. Two "elems" (reserves) at each end with geometric plant decorations. Beautiful symmetry.
