JOSEP PUIGMARTI VALLS (Monistrol de Calders, 1932-2020). "Chess horse". Mixed media and collage on paper. Signed and titled in the lower margin. Measurements: 32,5 x 69 cm; 82 x 46 cm (frame). Josep Puigmartí was a self-taught Spanish painter and sculptor who developed his style outside the conventions and artistic trends of the time. During the 60's, 70's and 80's, he introduced in his surrealist paintings a whole iconography of erotic style that earned him the consideration of transgressor artist who practiced a provocative style, by the critics of the time. In 2007 the city council of the border town of Bourg-Madame (France) declared him a favorite son, giving him the keys of the city and dedicating a permanent museum called Espace d'art Puigmartí. As a result of his many travels around the world, he exhibited in Spain, Andorra, France, Monaco, Sweden, Denmark, Japan, Abu Dhabi, Colombia, the United States and the China Millennium Monument Contemporary Art Museum in Beijing.
