OLAF MOOIJ (Rotterdam, 1958). "Scale model 1:18 car hair", 2000. Mixed media. Provenance: Important Spanish Collection. Size: 35 x 22 x 12 cm. Olaf Mooij is known for his spectacular and surprising sculptures of cars in public spaces. For the Rotterdam artist, each car has its own personality, which derives from its design. Among his most representative works is "Braincar", a car whose top has been transformed into a large brain dome, as well as other cars with exaggerated wigs and hoods that create playful, cartoonish images. These are the cars of Olaf Mooij, objects that take on a personality and remind us of the usefulness and closeness of this means of transport in society. With his peculiar style, Mooij has achieved notable success. In fact, in 1999, he was nominated for the Rotterdam Design Award with his DJ Mobile, a converted Ford Sierra with a professional sound system, ten speakers and a DJ booth. Mooij's cars are nothing more than a bodywork, but he transforms them into personality, into living matter. This time we present the "Car Hair" in 1:18 scale.
