RAFAEL G. BIANCHI (Olot, 1967). "Believe in utopia", 2002. Pencil on canson paper. Signed, dated and titled in the lower margin. Provenance: Important Spanish Collection. Measurements: 90 x 90 cm. Graduated in painting in 1992, Rafael G. Bianchi extended his studies with the postgraduate course "L'obra gràfica avui. De l'empremta gravada a l'empremta digital", at the University of Barcelona and a PhD in "La pintura a l'era digital" (2002). In parallel to an academic career, Bianchi has an artistic work where he escapes from formal continuums that can be automatically perceptible, exercising total freedom in employing displays and strategies to reach his objective on each occasion. His work often revolves around questions, and these are often sarcastically addressed to art and the artist, to the figure and the system, possibly influenced, from the beginning, by a painter father of notorious trajectory. A profound connoisseur of the world of art and painting since he was a child, he did not take long, however, to stand out on the contemporary scene with work that tends to point out tensions and criticisms with intelligence and irony. G.Bianchi uses the absurd and the freedom it gives, irony and subtlety, or the sarcasm of the superficial to reach those places that would be difficult to reach with righteousness alone.
