Georges Louis Hyon (Paris 1840-1909) - Painting of soldiers on horseback on lookout H cm 31x24 - in frame H cm 57x51 Oil on canvas "The painting shows the typical characteristics of the works of its author, the French painter Hyon. The two French gendarmes are portrayed on horseback, vigilant and focused on scanning the surrounding territory. Captured in a moment of scouting, the soldiers, mighty above their horses, are depicted in a wooded, suburban setting. The work does not deviate from Hyon's typical pictorial characters and motifs. Indeed, the French artist is known for his depictions of military personnel and his care in painting the details of their uniforms. Critics entrust him with a particular talent for depicting horses, this is also clearly visible in the work under review. The brushstrokes while not defined are constructed in such a way as to give texture and form to all the elements depicted, from the vegetation, to the faces, to the equines on which Hyon's studio has focused throughout his career.
