25,000 Starr revolvers were produced during the American Civil War. Some were sold to the French army for national defense during the 1870 war.
For the model 1863 SA in 44 caliber, 4500 units were sold to the artillery directorate in Lyon, and 2226 "Starr revolvers" of unspecified models were sold on April 8, 1871 in Brest.
