Carved ebony and blackened wood cabinet opening with a central leaf, the uprights in detached twisted columns rest on a wide plinth base. The top is veneered with yellow breche marble.
The central panel most probably evokes the mythological tale, borrowed from Ovid's Metamorphoses, of Mercury entrusting Bacchus to Ino, surrounded by hyades under the eye of Jupiter, in a setting of putti, drapery and foliage.
Nineteen 17th-century Florentine plaques in polychrome hardstone marquetry, decorated with branching birds, fruit and foliage, adorn the front and sides. Gilded bronze ornamentation such as gallery, baguettes and Ionic capitals.
