Efim Vinogradov (engraver), from a drawing by Mikhail Makhaeff under the supervision of Giuseppe Valeriani. View of the former Winter Palace of His Imperial Majesty and the canal that joins the Moika with the Neva. Saint Petersburg, Imperial Academy of Sciences and Arts, 1753-1756. Etching on laid paper. 49.5 x 71 cm. Vertical tear. From a series of twelve views published to mark the fiftieth anniversary (1753) of the construction of Saint Petersburg, and produced using the camera obscura process. The following four engravings are taken from the album titled in Russian ("Le plan de la ville de Saint Pétersbourg avec la représentation de ses meilleures perspectives publié par les soins de l'Académie Impériale des Sciences et des Beaux Arts de Saint Pétersbourg 1753"). This album was published for the fiftieth anniversary of Saint Petersburg. It included the city plan and twelve views of the capital, executed to drawings by Mikhail Ivanovich Makhaev (1716-1770) under the supervision of J. Valeriani (1690-1761). Using a camera obscura, Makhaev traced the outlines of the drawings, which he then completed with details drawn from life. He also participated in the engraving of these plates, alongside other engravers such as Yakov Vassilieff. The artists of this album were honored by Empress Elisabeth (special oukaze of July 14, 1753). Ефим Виноградов, по рисунку Михайла Махаева. Лист из альбома "План столичного города Санктпетербурга с изображением знатнейших оного проспектов изданный трудами Императорской Академии наук и художеств в Санктпетербурге 1753 года". Альбом был выпущен к 50-летнему юбилею Санкт- Петербурга, включал в себя план и 12 видов города, выполненных по рисункам Михайла Махаева под наблюдением Дж. Валерияни. М.И.Махаев рисовал эскизы для видов города, используя камеру-обскуру, а затем отдельно с натуры зарисовывал детали и вставлял их в листы. Он также принимал участие в гравировании листов, нанося основные контуры на доску. Остальные граверные работы выполняли граверы Академии под руководством И.А. Соколова. Создатели альбома были удостоины поощрения Императрицы Елизаветы Петровны специальным указом от 14 июля 1753 г.
