The Grenadière at Saint-Cyr-sur-Loire
Graphite on watercolor paper, with white chalk highlights, oval view, in a painted and captioned marie-louise.
21 x 27 cm
This is the Petite Grenadière property on the banks of the Loire, rented in the 19th century by the writer Honoré de Balzac. He always wanted to buy it, but was unable to raise the necessary funds.
It was subsequently leased by Pierre Béranger, and by Jean-Charles Cazin, director of the Ecole des Beaux-arts de Tours and a painter himself.
