Charles KOECHLIN. 4 L.A.S., ca. 1938-1946, to Yvonne Astruc; 4 oblong pages in-4 and in-8. Lovely correspondence from the composer to the violinist. Valmondois, Wednesday: "I don't know if you currently have the opportunity to play in a quartet, but on the off chance that you do, I have sent you the score of my 1st string quartet. [...] My sonata for p. and violin will be published next June" - February 1 [1938]. "Milhaud tells me that you are thinking of playing my Sonata on the Radio, I would be delighted and I am at your disposal"; but he regrets not having written a Sonatine for violin and piano; he is delighted that she will play the Sonate de Gédalge, "much too forgotten".- January 27, 1939. After the beautiful radio concert, while reviewing his Scherzo, he realized that "in certain passages, you can press a lot, so that for the whole middle section, the movement would benefit from being faster, and you'd just have to let yourself go to animate. Apart from that, for the rest of the work it was exactly my movement, and the execution was magnificent"... June 3, 1946: he sends "a few indications concerning my violin sonata, in case you have to play it again. These are only small details, and on the whole your interpretation was remarkable, for you understood this difficult work very well"... Enclosed is a contract from the Radiodiffusion française for Yvonne Astruc to play the Sonatas by Koechlin and Debussy (May 18, 1946).
