Albrecht Dürer's bookplate for Pirckheimer -By Johann Theodor de Bry (1561-1623) / Description: Centrally on the scene, a heart is forged by four female personifications: Tribulatio (sorrow), Spes (hope), Tolerantia (tolerance) and Invidia (envy). This representation is contained in a cartouche mounted on a column. Two putti rest against the base of the column, the right one caressing a little dog. The central part of the design, which shows the emblem of Willibald Pirckheimer, is based on a drawing by Albrecht Dürer.
