Very rare Roman illustrated edition printed by Ruffinelli with the error of the year of printing on the title page. Of particular interest are the illustrations in Book II (with the escape from Troy), VI (with the entrance to Hades), VIII (with Venus in Vulcan's forge), X (with the duel between Aeneas and Mesenzio), and IV with the panel devoted to the story of Aeneas and Dido vertically distinguished between erotic register (the refuge in the cave) and tragic register (the suicide).Hannibal Caro (1506-1577), poet and translator, owes his fame to his translation into loose endecasyllables of Virgil's Aeneid. 16mo; 105x50 mm.
