Juan Pérez de Moya (Santisteban del Puerto, Jaén, ¿1512? - Granada 1596) . Spanish mathematician, mythographer and writer.
As a mythographer he was the author of a book widely reprinted in his time, "Filosofia secreta donde debajo de historias fabulosas" (Secret philosophy where underneath fabulous stories), Madrid, 1585. Madrid, 1585, a treatise on Greco-Roman mythology with a humanistic slant where he tries to extract a moralizing teaching from each myth. Pérez de Moya was inspired above all by Giovanni Boccaccio's Genealogia deorum gentilium. In order to understand the ancient fables, he proposes the five senses that are usually attributed to the Holy Scriptures, ranging from the most external and superficial to the central sense, which he calls the secret philosophy.
Good condition. Missing parts and restored title page.
