Brunet IV, 325; Ebert 15682; Henze III, 708 - The first edition of vol. 1 was published in St. Petersburg in 1776, the present printing 3 years later. The 2nd vol. of the Petersburg edition was not published until 25 years later in 1801. We have not been able to determine whether the 2nd vol. was published with the present edition. - Interesting account of the history, customs and traditions of the Kalmyks, whom Pallas visited several times during his great expedition in 1768-74. The plates show Kalmyk camps and the inhabitants in their times playing chess, cooking, etc. - Pp. 1-16 bound at the end, N.a.T. Overall a good copy.
