North German landscape with a Galerieholländer windmill by a river
Summery view of a village. Lutteroth studied under Oswald Achenbach at the Düsseldorf Academy from 1864-1867. Lutteroth spent 1868-1870 in Rome and undertook study trips through Italy. When he returned to his home town, he gained an important reputation as a landscape painter. The Crown Prince and Princess Friedrich Wilhelm and Victoria in particular held him in high esteem.
