The skull made of black lacquered sheet metal with gilt fittings in non-ferrous metal. Edged front visor and short neck guard. The high comb lavishly decorated in relief and fixed with a round-headed pin, chased on both sides with a lion and serpent in mortal combat on a finely grained background. Bead and reel ornaments, laurel frieze, original black and yellow wool crest. The crowned, double-headed eagle below two crossed laurel branches on the front of the comb. Below which a front plate fixed with pins, the sovereign's cipher "F. I." (Kaiser Ferdinand I of Austria, 1835 - 1848) appliquéd in the center with a palmette frieze border. Protective bars (side forks) on the side of the skull. The chinscales made of several pieces (unusual scale pattern) with leather underlay, on finely raised lion's heads. The black leather liner with a gold-embossed border. Also includes the breastplate in black lacquered sheet metal with gilt brass fittings, brass bands fixed along the edges with round-headed pins, unusually shaped brass-plated medial ridge. Two screw-mounted shoulder straps with heart-shaped perforations and reddish velvet lining. The inner surface of the breastplate tinned, the lining and rear section of the carrying straps have been lost. Slightly damaged in places, signs of wear and age.
