A German officer's military wheellock pistol, circa 1650
The octagonal barrel turning to 16-faceted then round, with a reinforced muzzle. Smooth bore in 13 mm caliber. The lock with distinctly domed plate, brass wheel cover with engraved floral ornaments. Pan with spring-loaded cover and release button. The barely legible mark "HN"(?) stamped on the inside. Lightly carved full stock in walnut. Iron furniture, the butt cap engraved with floral decoration. Inset wooden ramrod with brass tip. Length 51 cm.
A group of similar pistols was part of the collection of the princes of Salm-Reifferscheidt-Dyck at Schloss Dyck.
