Strong officer's saber known as the "petit Montmorency", brass, chased and gilded single-branch guard with shell, "climbing lion" model, holding a club topped with a Phrygian cap and crushing a dragon with its hind legs, one of which is resting on a barrel, openwork top, shell-shaped quillon, lion-head pommel, fully filigreed spindle; strong, almost straight blade, engraved on one side with a flaming grenade and the inscription: "La PATRIE", a trophy of arms and below a fleur-de-lys, on the other side, a trophy of arms and the inscription: "La Loi" and below leafy friezes; leather scabbard with three gilded brass fittings, decorated with fillets; blade width 45 mm, total length 89.5 cm. (A small accident at the junction of the shell with the plate; leather probably slightly later). Revolutionary period, circa 1790/1792. Good condition.
