Born on March 21, 1894 in Marseille, Alix Aymé entered the Toulouse Conservatoire in 1909, where she was recognized as a musical prodigy. However, she opted for painting as a career when she moved to Paris to study drawing with Desvallière and Maurice Denis in 1916. At the end of 1921, she moved to Hanoi with her husband, Paul, who became a teacher at the Lycée Albert Sarruat in Hanoi. From then on, her life was closely linked to this land until 1945. Alix Aymé skilfully handles a variety of materials, including oil paint, silk and paper. Each material gives rise to characteristic works that are highly successful. She has a particular love of lacquer, and makes considerable efforts to develop Vietnamese lacquer painting.
Alix Aymé, passionate about traditional Asian silk materials, is a true admirer of lacquer. So she used gold as an inlay material on the surface of the silk fibers to create a striking visual contrast with the smooth silk background. Even in repose, this young woman's face reveals a slight concern. ALIX AYMÉ has a deep empathy for Vietnamese women, always portraying them with sincere respect and affection.
