This type of compositions, with a native figure in a landscape, was a recurrent thematic of the painters since the first school of painting of Manila with the well-known "types of the Country", portrayed in their daily chores, capturing their customs and traditional clothes. These compositions were also painted in the early years by the artist Felix Resurrección Hidalgo, among others.
