The portrait we present is a reduction of the original work by Hyacinthe Rigaud, in response to the monarch's commission in 1701, considered the official portrait of the Sun King. The artist's prolific studio produced a large number of royal effigies, all of which were brilliantly executed, sometimes with slight variations, such as here in the head movement of the figure of Themis in the bas-relief in the background.
