The young marquis Roger de la Bourdonnaye accompanied archaeologist Charles Texier on his trip to Armenia, Persia and Mesopotamia in 1839-1840. The book, published in 1842, is illustrated with several plates by this draftsman, engraved by the Lemaitre workshop.
