Architecture - Piano, Renzo. Early building model of Potsdamer Platz. Beech wood and seed balls, glued to sawn beech wood panel. With Piano's handwritten signature and marking of street junctions in graphite pencil. Probably Paris/Genoa, Renzo Piano Building Workshop, around 1992. 39 x 28.5 x 9.5 cm. Mounted on a further wood and two chipboard panels under Plexiglas.
In 1992, Piano and his partner Christoph Kohlbecker won first prize in the competition for the redevelopment of Potsdamer Platz. His studio led the team of participating star architects such as Hans Kollhoff, Richard Rogers and José Rafael Moneo, eight of the 19 buildings were designed by Piano. - The present, professionally executed and signed table model largely corresponds to the final structural plan, but does not yet show the façade divisions, roof superstructures and other details of later large-scale models. It probably dates from the design phase of the master plan. - Perfectly preserved.
