Extensive collection of the rare and elaborately designed program booklets of the Sochikuza Cinema and Theatre in Kyoto. - Founded in 1923, Sochikuza was the first cinema dedicated to showing foreign films and screened imported films from all over the world on a weekly basis. - Some of the covers were designed by Japanese artists, while others used or modified works by various Western artists. 6 envelopes signed "Shin" in the print, that is: Shinkichi Yamada (1903-1981), one of the pioneers of Japanese Art Deco. - Partly slightly creased.
