ISPAHAN carpet (Persia), early 20th century, inlaid with natural silk
Dimensions: 200 x 138cm.
Technical features: Wool and silk velvet on cotton backing.
An ivory field, exuberantly decorated with interlacing tropical flowers and corollas, serves as a hunting ground for cheetahs chasing deer, watched by curious birds. Two counter-borders, navy and sky with florets, enclose the main raspberry border with a succession of polychrome floral compositions.
