Fine and important SAROUK carpet (Persia), late 19th century
Dimensions : 390 x 270cm.
Technical features: Wool velvet on cotton backing.
A jagged brick field, sown with original flowering and leafy stems, exuberant flowers and cypress trees, supports an extraordinary floral medallion and its pendants. The anthracite medallion, adorned with multicolored flowers, holds a starry plant heart. Four ivory spandrels and excrescences, with stylized plants, enclose the whole. Four fine counter-borders in warm colors frame the midnight-blue main border with its inextricable polychrome floral ornamentation.
