Important and fine TABRIZ carpet (Northwest Iran), circa 1930/40
Dimensions : 365 x 260cm.
Technical features : Wool velvet on cotton backing.
An ivory field with brick corolla and floral scrolls hosts an oblong navy counterfield and an old rose mandorla medallion with a large turquoise poly-lobed star-shaped cruciform flower in its center. The whole is covered with a delicate trellis of polychrome floral stems. The old rose border features a succession of blossoming flowers on stems, flanked by six old gold and turquoise counter-borders with a garland of florets. Outer braid with polychrome geometric figures.
(Fine, silky, high-quality Kork lambswool, first shearing), (density = approx. 7/8,000 knots per dm2).
