Tapis - Tibet (1910-1930)
Thick wool rug, hand-woven and hand-knotted in Tibet, decorated with a figure on a tiger skin background surrounded by a border of masks.
Good condition. 102 x 80 cm.
Provenance: Sandro VOLTA Collection (1900-1986) and descendants.
Sandro VOLTA was a writer, journalist and art collector, who wrote the preface to his friend Tristan Tzara's "Manifesto of Dadaism". Part of his collection was sold by Maître Rheims at Hôtel Drouot on May 16 and 17, 1957. From 1925 to 1932, he was a correspondent for the newspaper LA STAMPA in China and Tibet.
