Mortensen, Richard (Copenhagen 1910 - 1993). Composition. Oil on canvas. 1938. signed and dated verso on stretcher. 100 x 120 cm. Framed - The multi-award-winning artist Mortensen received his training at the Royal Danish Academy of Fine Arts in Copenhagen. He was a co-founder of the 'Linien' school of abstract painters and belonged to the 'Helhesten' group, which was led by Asger Jorn and laid the foundations for the later Cobra movement. In 1947 he moved to Paris, where he and other artists belonged to the 'Galerie Denise René' and where his works were regularly shown in solo exhibitions, as well as at several documenta exhibitions and the Venice Biennale.- Large abstract, differently colored forms, delimited with black lines from light areas as background.- Label of the auction house Bruun Rasmussen with inventory number on verso (this oil painting was knocked down there in 2006 for 12000,- Euro).
