French school of the first half of the 19th century, workshop of Robert Lefevre Portrait of the Comte d'Artois, future Charles X. Original canvas, in a Restoration-period oval wood and gilded stucco frame with palmettes. Height : 65 cm Width : 53 cm Old label on the reverse, with an inscription on the reverse of the frame 'Le male et La duchesse de Coigny'. Provenance : according to an inscription on the back of the frame: former collection of the Maréchal and the Maréchale, Duchesse de Coigny, from the sale of the Château de Laval in Reilhaguet. History: Marie François Henri de Franquetot, Duc de Coigny (1737-1821), from a French military family, was elevated to the rank of Pair de France in 1814 by King Louis XVIII and appointed Governor of the Hôtel Royal des Invalides.
