During the nineteenth century the animal-themed sculpture will finally reach a status of its own, within the context of romantic sculpture. Seeking to break away from the classical sculptural ideal, many artists saw in the animal theme a new way of expression, linked to the emotional and irrational nature, in a purely romantic senseFrench sculptor of the Art Deco period, Pierre Laurel was especially recognized for his figures of dancers, young naked girls with elegant movements, in dynamic and geometric compositions, typical of the time. He worked mainly in medium and small format sculpture, in bronze and other materials. Today he is mainly represented in private collections.
