SEBASTIÁN GESSA Y ARIAS (Chiclana, Cádiz, 1840 - Madrid, 1920).

Sebastián Gessa was formed in the School of Fine Arts of Cadiz with Ramón Rodríguez Barcaza. Later he will move to Paris, to continue his studies at the Imperial School of Fine Arts from 1863, under the direction of Alexandre Cabanel. However, he finally returned to Madrid, where he spent most of his life. He regularly attended the National Exhibitions of Fine Arts, where he obtained an honorable mention in 1864, third medal in 1871 and 1876, second in 1884 and 1892, second medal in 1884 and first in 1897. He also won a third medal at the Universal Exhibition in Paris in 1889. It is currently represented in the Museo del Prado, the Museo Municipal de Játiva and the Museo de Castrelos de Vigo, among other public and private collections.
