YORUBA, NIGERIA. Gelede mask from the Abeokuta region. Wood and pigments. Figure with a soothed expression, treated in polychrome, almond-shaped pierced eyes, closed mouth pierced on the left side, cheeks each with six scarifications. Wearing an impressive headdress. Traces of indigo pigment and fragments of cord. Height 37 cm (old restorations, traces of wear, cracks) Base. Provenance: Galerie Olivier Larroque, presenting the mask as late 19th century.
