CANTAL. 1390. CHÂTEAU DE COLOGNE located in NAUCELLES (Cantal). Charter dated November 1, 1390, in Latin, vellum (6 x 34 cm), text summarized in French on reverse: "Delay granted by Pierre Abbé d'AURILLAC, to Noble Pierre de SAINT MARTIAL, to pay tribute for reason of the Château de Cologne." - Cologne was once a fortified castle, of which all that remains today is a massive tower overlooking the Authre river. Towards the end of the 13th century, it belonged to Jehan Bruni... The land of Cologne then passed by acquisition to Messire Pierre de Saint-Martial, seigneur de Drugeac et de Nozières, who paid homage to the abbot of Aurillac in 1389. Later, the Vernhe de Montsalvy family took possession, and one of its members, Jean de Vernhe, was lord of Cologne around 1440 (1390, reign of Charles VI).
