Group of three mounted soldiers of the 1st World War on the run, watercolour, c. 1918, monogrammed "C.R." lower right, on the back of the frame inscription "Prof. Carl Röchling (1855-1920), org. watercolour mounted old..." as well as "rücks. Alt beschr. "Berittener Spähtrupp vom Feinde entdeckt", preserved in fresh colours, framed behind glass, rebate dimensions approx. 14 x 27 cm. Artist information: German landscape, battle and history painter, lithographer and illustrator (1855 Saarbrücken - 1920 Berlin), studied 1875-80 at the Karlsruhe Academy under Ludwig des Coudres and Ernst Hildebrandt, later at the Berlin Academy, master student and temporary collaborator of Anton von Werner, worked as a children's book illustrator in collaboration with Richard Knötel, also became known through numerous collector's pictures distributed by the Cologne chocolate producer Ludwig Stollwerck, active in Berlin, source: Thieme-Becker and Internet.
