View from the Grand Canal with sailing boats and gondolas to St Mark's Square with St Mark's Tower and the Doge's Palace, impasto painting in bright, friendly colours, oil on canvas, c. 1960-70, signature "E. Demmin" lower right, minor cleaning required, in an open-worked stucco frame, folded dimensions approx. 61 x 82 cm. Artist info: German painter, graphic artist and restorer. Painter, graphic artist and restorer (1911 Ivenack/Mecklenburg to 1997 Berlin), studied 1931-39 at the Staatsschule für Freie und Angewandte Kunst Berlin under Holst, Max Kutschmann, Paul Thol and Ludwig Bartning, travelled through Italy, Spain, Portugal and Holland, 1949-55 worked as a restorer for Hinnerk Scheper and was involved in the restoration of the Knobelsdorf wing at Charlottenburg Palace and the staircase of Klein-Glienecke Palace, turned to freelance landscape and veduta painting at the end of the 1950s, member of the Havelländische Malerkolonie, active in Berlin, source: AKL, files of the Reichskammer der Bildenden Künste Berlin and Internet.
